The Elisabet Ney Museum’s Breaking the Mold exhibition redefines Elisabet Ney's iconoclastic life and brilliant art through the lens of three Austin contemporary visual artists: Beili Liu, Tammie Rubin, Virginia L Montgomery (VLM). Attendees of the exhibition will experience artist interventions, theatrical performances, and musical expressions immersed throughout the museum's expansive grounds, paired with curated food and drinks from local vendors and specialized museum tours crafted by community members.
In addition to the exhibition, these three artists have been selected to help create a new education initiative at the museum titled, Breaking the Mold: Mobile Hands-On Art Crates. These portable classroom kits will bring each artist created crates into Austin 4th grade classrooms and engage students with art, history, science and math-based lessons that encourage critical thinking and the creative process. This program will also reinforce Elisabet Ney’s vision for women in the arts while advocating for youth educational initiatives.
The Elisabet Ney Museum is the historic home and studio of Elisabet Ney, a wildly iconoclastic German sculptor who moved to Austin in 1882.
The museum enthusiastically celebrates her art, her history and her legacy through exhibitions and events for the whole family.
The museum enjoys numerous historic designations and is a cornerstone of the Hyde Park National Register Historic Neighborhood. Admission is free.
