Fusebox is launching a new program designed to help local artists create ambitious live performance projects that premiere locally in Austin, with an eye toward then touring the show around the United States and the world. Fusebox will leverage its robust national + international network to connect each participating artist with festivals, producers, curators, art centers, and venues around the world, and in doing so help strengthen the growing power and diversity of the district's cultural offerings.
Our inaugural project will be led by Austin-born and based singer/performer Joshua Banbury, whose identity as a queer, Black jazz musician calls upon the past and present of performance traditions in East Austin. Fusebox will support the creation of a new, original concert and performance created by Banbury that brings together the worlds of theater, design, and jazz in new ways. Tapping into our global network, Fusebox will assist Joshua in assembling an all-star team of designers (from costumes, to sets, to video design) to create a rich, visual world for the show, which is often absent from jazz shows in a typical music club.
Fusebox will present three iterations of the performance in three different sites across the Six Square District. Each site within Six Square speaks to different histories within the district.
